Nurture merit Programmes

‘Nurture Merit Programme’, identifies students in need of support to pursue higher studies after Class X and provides financial assistance to them till they graduate. From helping 100 students at Bangalore in 2004, the Nurture Merit programme has grown to cover 372 students during 2010-11 [ to be checked ] . This year, only 36 students have been found qualified and they are being invited to attend our College Orientation Programme to be conducted in April/May 2011.

This year, under this programme, students, who are studying in 9th std, have also been identified based on their merit and economic condition and Nurture Merit Test has already been conducted. About 41 students, who have qualified in this test and also during house visit, have been invited to attend one month orientation programme which is being conducted during April/May 2011.

Prerana's Nurture Merit Test initiative aims to help needy meritorious students for their college education. We provide these students with:

  • Financial assistance (for college fee, books etc.)
  • Other academic support , including learning centers support
  • Training
  • Mentoring
  • Placement assistance

Only genuinely needy, meritorious students are ensured of our support. Here's a brief summary of how we identify the deserving students:

The Nurture Merit initiative is explained to the needy students passing out of Std. X/IX through our visits to about 250 government high schools in Bangalore.

We also invite applications through newspaper advertisements, bill boards etc in the month of May, after results of Std. X exams are announced. Students from families having annual incomes less than 1,50,000/-,scoring 80% and above, or with a CET rank of less than 10,000 can apply. (to be checked)

The Nurture Merit Test (NMT) is held to select students from the hundreds of applications received. Successful candidates from this test are then interviewed.

*To make sure that the donations reach only the truly deserving students, we visit the applicants' homes and assess their economic condition.

* The applicants are screened through a competitive test-the ‘Nurture Merit Test (NMT)’ which is based on the 8th and 9th standard syllabus.

** We visit the houses of all the students qualified in the NMT, to evaluate their financial / economic conditions.
